Name: Red
Species: Cherry Head Conure
Age: Approximately 30 years
Temperament: Somewhat tame; hand shy.
Surrender Situation: Current owner does not feel the bird gets enough attention.
Cage included: Yes.
Other Information:

Red is a wild-caught Cherry Head conure who was smuggled into the country as a baby.  His early years were not optimal as he was in a too-small cage and relegated to a laundry room where he ate nothing but black sunflower seeds.  Red has been with his current owner for approximately half his life.  He is fully flighted and has been for his entire life.

Generally he spends most of the daylight hours outside his cage, only being locked in to sleep at night with a covered cage and a night light.  When out of his cage he does not wander and has shown no interest in chewing or other trouble-making.

Red is somewhat hand-shy and does not like to step up, though he will step up onto a shoulder or forearm.  He will allow himself to be petted.

Red is somewhat plucked around the shoulders and belly.

His eating habits are diverse.  He likes fruits and vegetables and toast and usually is fed the house blend mix sold at Rensselaer Bird Center.

Red will tolerate his cage being placed on a porch, but doesn't like to be outside very much.  He will ride in a car, but doesn't enjoy it.
